Sitawa Wafula

Blogger and Mental Health Advocate


Sitawa Wafula is a mental health advocate from Nairobi, Kenya. She has ten year’s experience in the African mental health space with notable achievements including; participation in the Kenya Mental Health Act review process that led to the 2015–2030 Policy and founding a social enterprise that set up and ran Kenya’s first free mental health support line, produced a weekly mental health show and a Google Award Winning blog.

The impact of her work has seen her recognized among Top 40 under 40 women in Kenya, Top 42 African Innovators to watch and a Non-Communicable Disease champion by Kenya’s Ministry of Health.

She is also a TED Speaker, a member of Africa Europe Foundation’s Health Strategy Group, a Senior Fellow at Aspen Institute’s New Voices Fellowship and Leadership Lancaster Fellow Core Class 2022.

Sitawa recognizes the need and impact of research, education and mentorship in the African health/mental health space. She is back in school to horn her skills and eventually work in academia and/or research as she continues to give back to the next generation of mental health champions in Africa.
