How would you create employment?

Young people account for 60% of unemployed in Africa, according to the World Bank. And yet in this same context, several African countries are topping the chart of the fastest growing countries worldwide.

One of main challenges is the skills mismatch between the current demands of the market and what the education system is preparing Africa’s youth for.

We spoke to the former president of Mozambique Joaquim Chissano to find out how a man who led a country for 19 years would tackle the job creation headache.

We asked Professor Sarah Anyang Agbor, Commissioner of Human Resources, Sciences, and African Technology of the Africa Union, for her thoughts on the topic

For another perspective we interviewed Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of United Nations. How would she respond?

Despite high levels of unemployment, Africa is a continent with a great potential for job creation. We reached out to Carl Manlan, Chief Operating Officer of the Ecobank Foundation, for his take on how he would tackle unemployment amongst Africa’s youth.

The idea of technology driven business start-ups. Governments & established business must support this start-ups for the youths.

Plan effectively for the youth employment.

We need to start processing our raw materials here. That will bring about increase in industries there by increasing the rate of employment. As well the processing industries will generate more income/revenue to the government to increase developmental project like roads, hospitals, schools, stadia ect.

The government's in Africa is not a listening one but self seeking.

Leadership is a cause and all flowing out of it , including Youth employment effects.... Let's look at the photo of the leadership model and perhaps debate it.

Well, Africa's #youthunemployment is arisen out of leadership inertia. Leadership is a cause and effect scenario. So it stand to risen is a leadership issue. But ask yourself aren't there leadership? It's not all we describe about leadership ooo. The laissez faire leadership style deployed in Africa is the problem. We are proud to shout hoarse on our voiced that started with Singapore during the independence struggle... But we forget to think that their patriarch , Lee kua yew used the pragmatic leadership model.... The late president of Tanzania John Magufuli deployed that model and we saw the transformational leadership..... Africa change the leadership model and we would be able to transform our individual countries and jobs would be created.... Right or wrong?
